Conan Week—Dudez A-Plenti

On Thursday, June 24, Conan O’Brien will record his last talk show on TV. The comedy giant (and almost literal giant?) already has his own popular podcast network, and there will be more projects in the future. But in honor of this occasion particular phase’s ending, Afternoon Delights will be featuring various Conan O’Brien-centric clips/videos/whatnots.

Conan O’Brien is a massive lover of music. He performed multiple musical numbers during his live tour (as seen in 2011’s CONAN O’BRIEN CAN’T STOP), he is often seen noodling at a guitar in behind the scenes footage, has played with various musical guests in all incarnations of his talk show, and helped write that “Monorail” song from The Simpsons episode.

But, arguably, his greatest sonic gift he has ever given the world arrived on April 20, 2000. Noting the popularity of the ABC TV show Making The Band which produced the boy band O-Town, O’Brien wanted to wet his beak in that sweet sweet heat of boy band riches. So, this humble Harvard grad with a lifetime of working in the highest positions of television scraped together his own quintet of hotties. And thus was Dudez A-Plenti born. The rest, of course, we all know by now. But it’s pretty amazing to see where it all began.

This is a legitimately hilarious bit that launches from boy band tropes into finding new ways to get weird. With crackers, mostly.
