“Bustin” by Neil Cicierega

Internet scoundrel and pop culture imagineer Neil Cicierega has a long and storied relationship with burgeoning online entertainment. His Harry Potter-inspired Potter Puppet Pals were big viral video sensations back in the day. Most recently, his brilliant music (specifically the “Mouth” tetralogy of Mouth Sounds, Mouth Silence, Mouth Moods, Mouth Dreams) are idiosyncratic approaches to mash-up techniques that produce singular works that are ridiculous but also occasionally carry hidden depths.

Today’s Afternoon Delight is “Bustn” from 2017’s Mouth Moods and is a terrifically bonkers dive into semantic satiation as Cicierega takes Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” and loops in words and phrases until it’s a delightfully weird mishmash of words. Oh and it is clear that Ray Parker, Jr. wants to sleep in your bed. “Bustin” is a hilariously joyful ditty—but the video that Cicierega put together for it makes it an all timer and a classic of the Halloween season. It’s fun, funny, whacky, weird, and wonderful. I heartily recommend grabbing all of Cicierega’s music (it can be found free/with donations) and rocking out to the catchy escapist absurdity of it all.

Because, in the end, don’t we all just want to “feel good”? And is bustin’ not the easiest way to achieve that goal?
