FANTASTIC FOUR Director’s Cut?

2015’s FANTASTIC FOUR film is a mess. It has janky storytelling, lackluster f/x, obvious awkward reshoots, and what feels like a rushed ending. Hell, even the name Fox Studios used for marketing—FANT4STIC—is awkward as hell.

But could it have been better? And what went wrong?

Those are the two central questions at the heart of this video by Bullets & Blockbusters. The movie was infamously disowned by its (nominal) director, Josh Trank, who said that the finished product was not his vision nor his cut. But does that mean there’s a director’s cut? And why did it end up so…odd (and not in a good way)?

It’s an excellent exploration of the plans, personalities, and problems involved in making FANTASTIC FOUR and a fascinating look at what might’ve been…though even that may not have been all that great.
