ONE HIT WONDERLAND: "Macarena" by Los del Río

It’s been a while since we featured the excellent Todd In The Shadows YouTube channel. But he is returning to NS with a VENGEANCE with this video about the biggest one hit wonder ever. Not only was “Macarena” a popular song…it was a global phenomenon. Words cannot express how ubiquitous it was for about a year. As someone who was 14 in 1996, I can testify that this shit was EVERYWHERE. But I always assumed it was just an odd confluence of events that landed a remix of an Andalucian track in the spotlight. It was, but the path to get there was weirder than expected and Todd In The Shadows does a great job of going through some of the worst “white people try and fail to do the easiest dance since ‘The Hokey Pokey’” videos that are out there. And there are many.
