PORTRAIT OF GOD (2022)

I was not familiar with Dylan Clark’s PORTRAIT OF GOD until this news recently broke about Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele collaborating to adapt it from a short into a feature film. But having watched it - wow, I can totally see why this affected the two filmmakers as Clark’s short is incredibly accomplished. Written, directed, and edited by Clark, the 7-minute film features a young woman (Sydney Brumfield) who suddenly finds herself at the precipice of something awe-inspiring…and dreadful. The perfect use of lighting, imagery, and Ryan Shreves’ minimalist score combine to make for a very impactful short that is incredibly potent and suggests a lot of potential for a feature adaptation.
