HALLOWEEN KILLS final trailer (and a contest)

No more running. No more hiding. It’s time to face the essence of evil.🔪

Universal has just released the final trailer for HALLOWEEN KILLS which is coming to theaters October 15—it will also be streaming on Peacock on that date so get those free month trials ready! I really dug 2018’s installment and this second part of David Gordon Green’s trilogy looks especially rugged. I like bringing back the vigilante posse from HALLOWEEN 4 (which was a really clever idea that was pretty quickly overshadowed when basically everything was scuttled in the blundering HALLOWEEN 5).

Will there be more discussions of Vietnamese sandwich arts? Is Julian (Jibrail Nantambu) back to exact revenge for Vicky not sending Dave first to meet his demise? Will more men end up with peanut butter on their penises? Who can say?!?

All jokes aside, 2018 had a bunch of cool aspects and was a fun approach to the material that felt especially brutal thanks to visceral fighting and outstanding performances by Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, amongst others. This bridge entry will bring back Tommy Doyle, the boy Laurie Strode was babysitting in the 1978 movie. Adult Tommy will be played by Anthony Michael Hall…which, honestly, kind of disappointed that Paul Rudd didn’t reprise the role from HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS. I feel like Danny McBride, co-writer of HALLOWEEN KILLS with Scott Teems and Green, could’ve persuaded the dude to show up. But, on the bright side, we get Lindsay Wallace (the other child being babysat) back as well with original actor Kyle Richards (of E.R. and The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills).

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make Blumhouse has had a good influence on Universal with their horror offerings, and I’m hopeful that HALLOWEEN KILLS will continue that. Though I expect this second part to end mildly abruptly to tease for the final installment, but as long as it avoids the dramatic chipmunk music of the reveal in MATRIX RELOADED, it’ll be okay. Also HALLOWEEN KILLS has its U.S. premiere at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on October 1.

In addition to the final trailer being released, Universal also has a contest going on social media (Instagram and TikTok) where you can end up getting killed by The Shape. That sentence sounds like it comes out of a dystopian novel from the late ‘90s, but the contest does seem pretty interesting. Here are the details:

Also, starting today, you can enter for your chance to win a trip for two to Los Angeles to be “killed” by Michael Myers (aka The Shape) on the set of your own Hollywood production. To be the lucky victim, record a video explaining why you are the biggest fan of the franchise and include your best horror scream.

Post the video on either TikTok tagging @UniversalPics, or Instagram tagging @HalloweenMovie and include the hashtags #HalloweenKills and #FaceTheShapeContest in the copy of your post.  The contest will end on 9/26 at 11:59pm and the winner will be notified on 9/27. The shoot will take place on 10/5 in Los Angeles. Full set of contest rules can be found here.
