Each week, Neon Splatter contributors offer up some viewing options found on streaming (U.S. unless otherwise noted). Movies, TV shows, specials, and more. New and old, from all sorts of genres and nations. Most importantly, we deem them worthy of your time.

Jeremy Lowe: THE WIZARD OF GORE (2007)

What It Is: Montag the Magnificent is a master illusionist who performs at underground venues, selecting female volunteers from his rave-like audiences. To their hysteria, it appears he's dismembered their bodies, but his sleight of hand has them fooled. However, female bodies show up dead from the same wounds performed on stage. Investigators are baffled, and the chase to find the killer begins.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: Out of all the Herschell Gordon Lewis remakes, this is the only one that takes the source material and really makes its own film. THE WIZARD OF GORE (2007) has a great noir aesthetic which reminds me of Clive Barker's 1995 classic LORD OF ILLUSIONS. Also, with Crispin Glover, Jeffery Combs, and Brad Dourif in the cast, you really can't go wrong. Despite some bad CGI, this is a solid watch, and worth your time. Highly Recommended!”

Kiley Fox: The Joy Of Painting

What It Is: In this half-hour program, artist Bob Ross paints a beautiful oil painting on canvas.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: “I haven't been watching much these days. But, the things I do watch need to be calm and comforting. Watching Bob Ross paint has become a happy place for me where everything is going to work out the way it's meant to be. It's many moments of zen.”

Alexis M. Collazo: Hot Skull (2022)

What It Is: Set in a World shaken by an epidemic of madness that spreads through language and speech, the reclusive former linguist Murat Siyavus, having taken refuge at his mother's home, is the only person mysteriously unaffected by this disease. Hunted by the ruthless Anti-Epidemic Institution, Murat is forced to leave the safe zone and flee within the flames and ruins of the streets of Istanbul, where he searches for the secret of his "hot skull" a lasting mark of the disease.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “Right away I was intrigued by the title and familiar yet unique premise. With plenty of suspense, action, and a bit of odd humor, it was well worth watching. I just hope we get another season, I need to know what happens next.”

Khayla McGowan: Will Trent (2023 -

)

What It Is: The series revolves around special agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), who was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta's overwhelmed foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.

Where It Is: Hulu

Why You Should Watch It: “This show is only three episodes in so far, but as a cop drama lover I can't recommend this one enough. So far the characters' relationships have been complex and their own personalities and histories are like mysteries themselves to unravel as they solve the crime of the week. Keep an eye on this one as it releases new episodes onto Hulu weekly on Wednesdays!”
