Some More News, “How Did People Become So Bad At Watching Movies?”

Some More News is an excellent program (organization?) that looks at politics and media in funny ways that manage to stave off the tears we all want to cry at or current situations. Host Cody Johnston (often joined by Executive Producer Katy Stoll in segments) delivers skewering points with copious research that shows just how messed up our society is—especially through a political lens.

The latest episode takes a slight detour from more overt political commentary to look at 2026 - the year in movies! What has succeeded, what has bombed, why are certain things resonating, and how are so many dumbs-dumbs out there getting it wrong?

As the episode summary states:

Hi. On today's episode: Movies! We talk about movies. Specifically, the changes in Hollywood now that "Obsession" and "Backrooms" were big hits while the new Star Wars flopped, why media literacy when it comes to movies has gone down the drain, and why the Right is so bad at just watching movies normally.

As directed by Will Gordh and written by David Christopher Bell, it’s a lengthy episode but it covers a lot of movies-related topics that actually all cohere together. The main theme is to show a stunning issue with media literacy that ranges from the top with corporations running the shows, to so many audiences blissfully not getting stuff, to Right Wing grifters purposefully misinterpreting films (to fit their grifts, you see).
