“The Games Industry Is Screwed.”

Admittedly, not the most cheerful of titles. But it’s also not just clickbait doom porn as Alanah Pearce (aka Charalanahzard) dives into numerous questions. Like why have there been so many layoffs and cancellations in the video game industry recently? How is it tied to growth of AI in gaming? And who is the secret supervillain behind it all?

The answer to the last one is capitalism. It’s always capitalism. In this case, capitalism in the form of stock market investors demanding unending exponential profit growth and then not being happy with only some mostly still very impressive profit growth.

It’s a fascinating look at where the industry is at, why it’s there, and where it may be going. It’s not NOT bleak, but Pearce has done excellent research and comes up with some intriguing information that does have…some rays of light…however miniscule.
