Welcome To Syndication, Bitch: 10 Fun Freddy’s Nightmares Episodes
Freddy Krueger will always go down as an icon of the horror genre. His face was everywhere back the 1980s and early 1990s with the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street series. Yes, Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees were big and scary but Freddy had character. His popularity not only spawned several Elm Street sequels but he also had his own TV show called Freddy’s Nightmares that ran in syndication from 1988-1990. Freddy served as the host of the series as it was more focused on being a horror anthology and telling different stories of people who lived in the town of Springwood, Ohio. It was a hot mess of a show at times, but it still provided a fun, campy atmosphere for horror fans. Here are ten episodes to prove that!
“No More Mr. Nice Guy”
This was our introduction to the series as it featured Freddy Krueger when he was on trial for the crimes he committed against some of the children of Springwood. A police officer who catches Freddy also fears for his family’s life as his twin daughters are being tormented by him too. When the justice system fails it’s up to the officer and other townspeople to take matters into their own hands.
It sucks that Freddy wasn’t gonna be a major part of the series but at least we got a little more of him in this episode.
“Killer Instinct”
Lori Petty stars in this episode as a high school track star who wants to be the best in honor of her recently deceased mother. When her competition begins harassing her, she finds a magic charm and sees that it grants her dreams.
This one really showed that this series was going in a different direction and even features a pretty memorable death scene.
“Freddy’s Tricks And Treats”
Sadly, this was the only Halloween episode we got from this series. And it’s unfortunate because it doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the holiday—which is a total waste.
At least it features the only and one Mariska Hargitay as a college student who is driven to madness by Freddy Krueger because she doesn’t believe in him. Then she meets some creepy dude who basically exploits her by studying her sleep and dreams...which obviously takes a deadly turn.
“Sister’s Keeper”
In the sequel to the first episode, the twin daughters of the police officer who killed Freddy are trying to find a way to get Krueger out of their dreams for good even if it takes switching places.
This just might be the best episode to come from the series and that’s really saying something because these episodes could get pretty boring for running over a half an hour long.
“Rebel Without A Car”
A teenage boy finds an abandoned car to fix up as his way to get out of Springwood but doesn’t realize that it has a deadly past with the previous owner.
The second part has the girl from THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE realizing that joining a sorority isn’t all it’s cracked up to be after she’s set up for humiliating pledges.
“Do Dreams Bleed?”
Vivid dreams about a local killer named “The Springwood Chopper” haunting a high school student so much that he starts to believe it could actually be him.
This one is more of a slasher-driven episode but I gotta say: The Springwood Chopper ain’t got nothing on Freddy.
“Love Stinks”
Adam cheats on his girlfriend at a party and discovers that the new girl has deeper intentions for having a serious relationship than he does.
In the second half of this episode, Jeffrey Combs makes a special appearance as the creepy uncle of Adam’s friend who helps him work at his pizza shop for the summer.
“The Art of Death”
A comic book artist realizes that his drawings are being brought to life with fatal consequences.
Another fun episode that feels very Freddy-esque especially like THE DREAM CHILD with the scenes of the comic book drawings becoming reality.
“Safe Sex”
The high school goth who is obsessed with Freddy Krueger is the girl of some guy’s dreams and he’ll do anything to have a shot with her...even if that means coming face to face with Freddy himself.
There’s something about goth chicks that go crazy for Freddy. It’s gotta be that sense of humor he has.
“Do You Know Where Your Kids Are?”
I think season 2 is a lot harder to sit through compared to season 1 but this episode is the best to come from it. It’s actually a sequel to another episode called “Bloodlines” from the same season and I can’t really remember what it had in common with that episode other than it had that one hot guy who appeared in films like MISCHIEF and MODERN GIRLS.
Anyway, this one focuses on a girl named Lisa who is in charge of babysitting for her friend Heidi who wants to hang out with her boyfriend. Lisa discovers that one of the relatives is locked in the basement and wants revenge.
