Each week, Neon Splatter contributors offer up some viewing options found on streaming (U.S. unless otherwise noted). Movies, TV shows, specials, and more. New and old, from all sorts of genres and nations. Most importantly, we deem them worthy of your time.

Alexis M. Collazo: Control Z (2020 - 2022)

What It Is: When a hacker begins releasing students' secrets to the entire high school, the socially isolated but observant Sofía works to uncover his/her identity.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “This may start off seeming like just another teen drama, but quickly spirals into some crazy shit. I got totally caught up in the suspense of who was hiding what and the wild twists kept things interesting.”

Rob Dean:  DEADSTREAM (2022)

What It Is: A disgraced internet personality attempts to win back his followers by livestreaming one night alone in a haunted house. But when he accidentally pisses off a vengeful spirit, his big comeback event becomes a real-time fight for his life.

Where It Is: Shudder

Why You Should Watch It: “The plot summary and most of the marketing makes this film look pretty awful and obvious. It isn’t. If anything, I would say DEADSTREAM is the closest analog to EVIL DEAD 2 as a found footage movie. It is hilarious and creepy and inventive as all hell. Perfectly satirizing streamers and influencer culture while delivering bonafide tension and scares. DEADSTREAM is raucously fun with a ton of craft and imagination poured into it. Watch with folks so you can all laugh and scream together in equal measure.”

Kiley Fox: PREDATORS (2010)

What It Is: When a group of people find themselves in a jungle, they realize that they are on a completely different planet and it's home to a race of extraterrestrial hunters. The group consists of a mercenary known as Royce, an IDF sniper known as Isabelle, a Russian Spetsnaz known as Nikolai, a drug cartel enforcer known as Cuchillo, an RUF officer known as Mombasa, a death row inmate known as Stans, a Yakuza assassin known as Hanzo, and an American doctor known as Edwin. It's up to these 8 individuals to stop their hunters and get off the planet.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: “Predator + video games aesthetics + samurai Predator + Laurence Fishburne. How is this not a good time?!?”

Khayla McGowan: AVA (2020)

What It Is: Ava is a deadly assassin who works for a black ops organization, traveling the globe specializing in high profile hits. When a job goes dangerously wrong she is forced to fight for her own survival.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “I love a good action movie focused on assassins who've been burnt by their organization. It's a very specific genre, but it's a great genre...and this movie does amazing at it! Oh--did I mention John Malkovich is in this...being the best John Malkovich he can be? Enough said.”

Shafi Malik: ATHENA (2022)

What It Is: Hours after the tragic death of their youngest brother in unexplained circumstances, three siblings have their lives thrown into chaos.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “As Netflix are doing an awful job promoting their own original content, I thought I would shine a light on a film that 1) feels like it was made for only me and 2) is one of the most stunning films I've seen in years. As if his music videos didn't already cement Romain Gravais as one of the most original filmmakers working today, this is a tour de force in propulsive action and spectacle. Watch it on the biggest screen you can!”
