Each week, Neon Splatter contributors offer up some viewing options found on streaming (U.S. unless otherwise noted). Movies, TV shows, specials, and more. New and old, from all sorts of genres and nations. Most importantly, we deem them worthy of your time.

Khayla McGowan: URBAN LEGEND (1998)

What It Is: There's a campus killer on the loose who's making urban legends, like the one about eating pop rocks and soda at the same time will make your stomach explode and the one about a psycho with an axe stepping into the backseat of your car at the gas station when not looking, into reality.

Where It Is: Pluto TV

Why You Should Watch It: “This one often gets written off as a Scream ripoff, but that's what I love about it! Not only did I NOT see the twist coming, but adapting urban legends into boogeyman scenarios is SO fun to watch. Did I mention Robert Englund makes an appearance? Enough said.”

Jeremy Lowe: BONES (2001)

What It Is: Over 20 years after his death by a gunshot, Jimmy Bones comes back as a ghost to wreak revenge on those who killed him and to clean up his neighborhood.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: “Holy shit, this movie is awesome. Great tribute to ‘70s blaxploitation with added Lucio Fulci-style gore, a Clive Barker aesthetic, and an EC Comics story arc. Ernest Dickerson directed this all star cast that includes Snoop Dogg and Pam Grier which can be called nothing less than a masterpiece. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!”

Kiley Fox: SUMMER RENTAL (1985)

What It Is: Jack Chester, an overworked air traffic controller, takes his family on vacation to the beach. Things immediately start to go wrong for the Chesters, and steadily get worse. Jack ends up in a feud with a local yachtsman, and has to race him to regain his pride and family's respect.

Where It Is: Amazon Prime Video

Why You Should Watch It: “As the weather turns to cold for the remainder of the year, I wanted to do one last farewell to summer. So I paired this with THE GREAT OUTDOORS (1988). John Candy is forever going to be one of the funniest, warmest, sincerest actors to ever have graced the screen. Watching him is pure joy.”

Rob Dean:  SOUTHBOUND (2015)

What It Is: On a desolate stretch of desert highway, weary travelers - two men on the run from their past, a band on their way to the next gig, a man struggling to get home, a brother in search of his long-lost sister and a family on vacation - are forced to confront their worst fears and darkest secrets in a series of interwoven tales of terror and remorse on the open road.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: “Anthologies are always a crapshoot and almost always uneven by design. In terms of solid gold throughout, CREEPSHOW is the obvious title holder—but SOUTHBOUND should be in the conversation too. Inspired short films that interlock in clever ways, it’s full of creepy imagery, powerful performances, and wholly original stories.”
