Each week, Neon Splatter contributors offer up some viewing options found on streaming (U.S. unless otherwise noted). Movies, TV shows, specials, and more. New and old, from all sorts of genres and nations. Most importantly, we deem them worthy of your time.

Jeremy Lowe: THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN (2014)

What It Is: 65 years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana, the so-called "moonlight murders" begin again. Is it a copycat or something even more sinister? A lonely high school girl may be the key to catching him.

Where It Is: Amazon Prime

Why You Should Watch It: “I'm not a huge fan of classic horror remakes/reboots, so this new vision of THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN was pleasant surprise. Amazing cast (including Veronica Cartwright, Anthony Anderson, and Edward Herrmann), score (Ludwig Göransson), and cinematography (Michael Goi). I loved that it is much more of a sequel than a remake, and really dug the self realization twist, incorporating the 1976 classic as a plot point. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!”

Kiley Fox: THE LOST TRIBE (2010)

What It Is: After a devastating boat crash, a group of friends are stranded on an uncharted island where they encounter an ancient tribe of humanoid creatures.

Where It Is: Tubi

Why You Should Watch It: “I watched this, because it's unashamedly a PREDATOR knock off. I love monsters. I love island horror. It starts with archaeology. Lance Henriksen is in it. This movie checked a lot of boxes for me. It wasn't anything spectacular. I laughed more than I was probably meant to. But it's nice to watch something different from the usual new releases, and this feels like a cheap but fun horror movie date. Like something you'd see at a drive in double feature.”

Alexis M. Collazo: Lexx (1996-2002)

What It Is: A group of disparate fugitives from an interplanetary tyranny find themselves in control of a massively powerful starship.

Where It Is: Freevee, Roku Channel

Why You Should Watch It: “This has got to be the strangest TV series I have ever watched. Between the misfit characters, overtly sexual jokes and completely ridiculous storylines it's impossible to stop watching. Partly because of morbid curiosity but also it is pretty entertaining.”

Shafi Malik: THE DISCIPLE (2020)

What It Is: Sharad Nerulkar has devoted his life to becoming an Indian classical music vocalist, diligently following the traditions and discipline of old masters, his guru, and his father. But as years go by, Sharad starts to wonder whether it's really possible to achieve the excellence he's striving for. A journey of devotion, passion, and searching for the absolute in contemporary Mumbai.

Where It Is: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It: “Comparisons to WHIPLASH (2014) are inevitable, but this is more of a slow-burn character study of a young man finding himself through his artistry. The performance scenes are somewhat hypnotic and you can't keep your eyes (and ears) away from it. Gorgeous movie!”

Rob Dean:  SPLIT SECOND (1992)

What It Is: In a flooded future London, Detective Harley Stone hunts a serial killer who murdered his partner, and has haunted him ever since. He soon discovers what he is hunting might not be human.

Where It Is: Amazon Prime

Why You Should Watch It: SPLIT SECOND is like 3-5 different movies all crammed into one delightful dystopian Sci-Fi package and led by a tremendously crusty Rutger Hauer performance. There’s some Predator stuff, some near future eco-disaster stuff, some serial killer stuff, some mismatched buddy cop stuff…and it’s all great. Admittedly, the ending is a bit rushed though—but the rest is all great!”
